10 COMMON SKINCARE MYTHS I BET YOU ALL ARE DOING!

10 COMMON SKINCARE MYTHS I BET YOU ALL ARE DOING!
skincare myths

Beauty hacks are all over the internet. Where some can be a blessing, some can be totally stupid but very easy to believe. There are so many misconceptions we normal people are programmed to believe just because most of the people around us talk about them.

This whole beauty industry makes us realize that we lack so much and we have to spend serious bucks to look good. Beauty bloggers promote the products in the fanciest way when they might actually have not even tried the product at all because let’s face it. Can a person use 10 face washes and 7 moisturizers at a time? I cannot.

Ps: It’s gonna be a lil long so get yourself some snack?

That is where I come in. Listen to these 10 supremely common skincare myths we all are believing and need to stop right now. RIGHT NOW! Keep scrolling!

Top Skincare myths Debunked!

OILY SKIN PEOPLE DO NOT NEED MOISTURISER AS IT WILL MAKE YOUR SKIN MORE OILY

Starting off with the one I believed for the longest time in my life. I’m oily skin type and stayed away from moisturisers or any kind of oils which made my face feel greasy for years now.

Debunking this skincare myth, even if you’re skin is oily, you should always wear an oil-free and non-comedogenic moisturizer that will not make your face feel greasy, clog your pores and at the same time prevent acne.

Due to external factors such as excessive facial cleansing or use of skincare topicals can dry out your skin excessively. As a result, your skin may start to produce more oil to compensate for the loss of moisture gone.

I started using a moisturiser recently and didn’t find my skin getting oily at all. Infact, now I wake up with less oil excreated than before and a soft glow which I’m loving really!

NATURAL/ ORGANIC SKINCARE PRODUCTS ARE BETTER FOR YOUR SKIN

skin care myths

This too is a skincare myth I stopped believing just until recently. I always preferred organic products over the synthetic ones.

Exposing, organic/natural products are not always chemical-free. In fact, they are the ones people are most allergic too as they can contain plant/herb extracts that may not suit various skin types. Moreover, all-natural/organic products are not always chemical-free, and not all synthetic products have toxic chemicals. You just have to look for what goes best for your skin.

Example: Coconut oil is such an inexpensive natural ingredient but it is highly comedogenic which means it can clog your pores and cause breakouts. On the other hand, tea tree oil (a natural oil) is a blessing for people with acne. It just depends.

PORE STRIPS TO GET RID OF BLACKHEADS

skin care myths

Don’t we all just fall for those beautiful black peel-off masks with glitters in it and what not? Whatta a nice publicity stunt! I used to use them a lot earlier but never found a drastic or even minute change other than my facial hair being pulled off, lol. They do come out right?

These black peel-off masks actually do more harm than good to your skin. They seriously damage your skin, rupture skin cells, and strip out all the natural oils of it. So Please don’t fall for them.

If you have a critical situation of blackheads going on, I suggest you exfoliating your skin at least twice a week for a couple of months to see the noticeable difference 🙂

ALWAYS USE A TONER

It’s always been marked that you absolutely must need a toner in your life. Nobody really knows the use of it though. Some believe it closes your open pores (which is again a huge skincare myth) while some say it helps balances the ph of your skin.

Busting, it is mostly used in order to balance the ph of your skin because most of the cleansers we use are alkaline in nature so we need an additional step after cleansing to balance it out.

However, the easiest way to avoid this step is to use a low ph cleanser in the first place and then toner will be unnecessary. It simplifies your skincare routine and saves you some money. Remember, if you feel like using it please use it but don’t do it for the sake of the beauty industry and everyone else saying it.

YOU SHOULD NEVER SQUEEZE A PIMPLE

skin care myths

Yes yes yes, I know we are not meant to but what if our whiteheads looks super juicy and we have places to be and just can’t bear it sitting on our face and relaxing it’s life out? We go to our beloved extractor.

Now, please please remember that there is a particular way to pop the pimple. You just cannot do wush and voila. Get that? So what you have to do is to get a sterilized needle so you don’t break the skin open rather neatly create an opening and gently suck the gunk after a good facial steam. Be sure to give your face a proper cleanse to keep the area clean so it heals quickly.

Better option? Try using pimple patches. They work. At least for me;)

DOUBLE CLEANSING ISNT A PREREQUISITE

skin care myths

The very hyped double cleansing method for cleaning your skin is not for everyone. Originally, it involves using an oil-based cleanser and then a water-based or foaming cleanser. Now we take double cleansing to mean as cleaning the face twice – regardless of what cleansers we use.

Exploding this skincare myth, double cleansing can prove very useful at night for removing makeup, pollution, dirt, and grime off the skin’s surface just for normal to oily skin types. And it isn’t for everyone. Over-washing dry and over sensitive skin can cause irritation and do more harm than good.

Stop double cleansing your dry skins and just stop believing what is told. A gentle moisturizing cleanser will do the work for you.

EXPENSIVE SKINCARE PRODUCTS AND LONG SKINCARE REGIMES ARE NOT ALWAYS BETTER

I myself am surrounded by so many people who advise me to just invest in “Gucci” to get gold. If you know what I mean ㋛

Confuting, there is NO direct relation between the price of a product and how effective it is. You can invest in a clinique moisture surge if you have the money and love for it or can use pond’s superlight gel which works almost the same if not exactly.

Adding, recent skincare trends from Asia touch on the complex multi-step layering of products for nice youthful skin. However, many of these products are not even made to be applied together. This can trigger allergies, irritation, and sensitivity in the skin.

If you go by what I say, you have to choose products your skin needs not what companies want you to buy. You can be done with just one good moisturizer (doesn’t have to be expensive) and not even need a serum.

IT IS RECOMMENDED TO EXFOLIATE DAILY IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE SMOOTHER SKIN

To be honest, I don’t even get the use of exfoliation. I feel, it is a step too harsh for the skin.

Basically, daily exfoliation can slow down the cell turnover, remove natural oils from the skin hence, cause more breakouts. Exfoliating 2 times a week is genuinely more than enough if you have blackheads and all. Also, avoid bead-based scrubs if you are dry skin type. And always keep in kind to exfoliate longer than harder!

Do not exfoliate just for the sake of doing it. It is not even as effective as they say it is.

DRINKING WATER MOISTURIZES YOUR SKIN

10 COMMON SKINCARE MYTHS I BET YOU ALL ARE DOING!

Drinking enough water may seem to moisturize your skin but it actually does not. It just removes toxins from the body and you’re entire body system starts functioning better.

The reason behind this skincare myth, when we drink water it has to pass through a hostile digestive tract, excretory organs, and muscles and remove all the toxins well. But this process is too quick that you’ll probably urinate the water out before it reaches the skin.

So don’t get your work done just by drinking 8 glasses of water every day. It may help clear out your skin but your skin will still need an additional moisturizer for that extra glow.

YOUR SKINCARE STOPS WORKING

Whether its down to hormonal fluctuations or pregnancy, you need to stay in tune with your skin and adapt to the skincare changes according to what your skin needs. Not what you love or has worked before!

I hope today I may have opened your eyes and shown you the real world of beauty out there. I’m sorry if these skincare myths may have broken your hearts or upset you or even offend you 🙁 but I’m glad you were strong enough to overcome this and learn!

So tell me, What were you believing? What are you gonna stop believing right now? Did you liked what i said? If you did, please care to share because it would mean the absolute world to me!
