I’m writing an HONEST COSRX aloe soothing sun cream review because no one was doing it!
There’s absolutely no doubt that Korean skincare is fantastic, works like magic, and their products are light years ahead of us. Just look at their flawless skin – it says it all. And even a self-proclaimed convert like me can’t help but sing its praises 😉
And if there’s one most talked about product from Korean shelves, it’s Korean sunscreens. Rumor has it that the formula they use is yet to be matched anywhere else. Um, are they really that ahead of us? I have my eyebrows raised on that. 🤨
But what all products I’ve used, I can say that they’re all too good to be true. ALL OF THEM. Especially the COSRX products!
You’ve definitely heard of them, right? Their snail mucin is the talk of the town. And I have to mention their sunscreen too – it’s a game-changer. That’s why I couldn’t resist jumping on the bandwagon, so you don’t have to! 😉
Alright, enough chit-chat. Let me spill the beans on this COSRX sunscreen review. Brace yourself, because it’s gonna blow your mind, quite literally!
Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+/ PA+++
In short, the COSRX sunscreen is a super lightweight formula that absorbs into the skin after rubbing it in for a few seconds. It has a soft texture that feels even softer on the skin and legit feels like you’ve applied a moisturizer.
However, it is NOT for oily skin as it makes it appear oilier/shinier and not that dewy glowy kind. It has A LOT of fragrance that lingers on for a while and the sunscreen even piles up after some time, especially when you have worn sunglasses or a mask.
It probably is a good sunscreen for dry skin types and the price point is pretty decent as well, but I think there sure are better sunscreens out there.
What’s The Hype Around COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream?
Honestly, pick up any Korean skincare product and you’ll instantly see the praises and how revolutionary and life-changing it is, even though it might be just an ordinary skincare product. But hey, it’s got the ‘Korean‘ tag?!
And when we talk about Korean sunscreen, this COSRX aloe soothing sun cream literally tops the chart every time! But what’s all the fuss about?
Well, this sunscreen not only has the powerhouse ingredient aloe vera, known for its amazing skincare benefits, but it also offers incredible SPF 50+ protection. And here’s the best part – it feels like a legit moisturizer on your skin! No wonder everyone is going gaga for it!
What Does It Claim & What Actually Is True?
So here are things that COSRX claims about this sunscreen and lemme give you how amazingly it holds them.
- Super lightweight ✅ That is 100% true. It literally feels like you have nothing on, and also, the skin starts to feel a lil softer to touch.
- Leaves no white cast ✅ That is true as well. And the white cast is literally what breaks or makes the sunscreen for me (or for anyone, for that matter 😉
- It is travel-friendly ✅ Of course, it has a plastic tube with a nozzle, nothing fancy, so you can simply throw it anywhere, and it won’t spill. The nozzle is pretty sturdy, though!
- Soothes and moisturizes the skin ❌ I might not agree with the soothing part much, but yeah, it sure is moisturizing enough to stand by the claim.
And interestingly, the brand doesn’t claim what it is not good at. I mean, they kind of know their limitations, so they didn’t even try to market that, which makes me trust COSRX even more now. They’re at least honest! 🤷🏻♀️
What Does It Smell Or Feel Like?
Oh baby, don’t even get me started on the smell! It has a seriously strong fragrance added to it (like a solid 7 on a 1-10 scale)).
Some people might find it pleasant, but for me, it’s not an everyday kind of smell. Not that it gives me a headache or anything, I’m just a bit sensitive to fragrances. And let me tell you, this one sticks around for a looong time!
At first, you might not even notice the scent, but give it a little time and it will start to feel stronger and stronger day by day, haha.
Even though, when applied, this COSRX sunscreen may not feel on the skin (because of its lightweight texture), it sure makes itself apparent through the scent.
Speaking of feel, I would not lie, it is literally the most hydrating sunscreen I’ve ever tried. And it doesn’t even have any hydrating elements except aloe vera and glycerine, whatsoever!! That’s crazy to me.
So I think I should rather say it’s the most moisturizing sunscreen than hydrating, right? Changing my remarks, babe!
How To Use COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream?
Slather on a big ol’ dollop of this bad boy all over your face 30 minutes before you step outside into the sun. I usually count a dollop as 2-3 finger amount of sunscreen.
And don’t forget to reapply as needed, especially if you’re gonna be out there soaking up the rays all day long.
My Personal Experience In Using COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream
What’s my skin type? I have oily/combination skin that occasionally gets some unwelcome acne visitors. But when they do, they love to be red and juicy and, most of the time, puss-filled. Not a very great sight, tbh!
And I usually use mattifying sunscreen, Who wants to outshine the moon, am I right? But then, I couldn’t ignore the hype surrounding COSRX’s aloe soothing sun cream. People were raving about it. They called it the best Korean sunscreen ever. Yep, you heard that right – THE BEST!
At first, I was like, nah, it really will be like any other (which it is btw, I don’t like to brag about me being right, but here I am), but I gave in to the hype.
Of course, it’s super lightweight, absorbs instantly (with just a little rubbing), and leaves absolutely no white cast behind. And what sets this baby apart is how freakin’ moisturizing it is – you might mistake it for a moisturizer!
And the best part? It didn’t cause any breakouts for me. I used it for a full week before writing this COSRX sunscreen review, so trust me, it’s safe to say it won’t break you out either.
I strongly believe this sunscreen works best for dry skin types rather than oilier ones. How do I know? Well, I asked my dry-skin mom and even got two friends with dry skin to try it before making this judgment.
But here are the cons that ensure I’m not buying it again!
This is a random picture I clicked for some legal purposes and I look like a MESS. But it was the first time I ever tried this COSRX sunscreen. And mind you, it was a HECTIC day!
- It actually makes my oily skin look super shiny, not that dewy glow I was hoping for. And it gets even worse when I start to sweat or spend a day outdoors. Not cool, COSRX!
- The sunscreen may also pile up, especially when you’re wearing a mask or sunglasses. It just gathers around that area and looks white. I was so embarrassed when the waitress had to point it out to me.
- About the soothing part, it does nothing more than your normal moisturizer will do for the redness. You can see, my pimples are just as red and juicy as they were before! And this picture was taken 35 minutes after applying the cream.
- And, of course, the fragrance is a real deal breaker I’ve discussed above.
Overall, COSRX’s aloe soothing sun cream is a solid 7/10 product and nothing like how it is being marketed on social media.
I LOVEEEE COSRX and their many products, but this sunscreen is just not for me or any oily skin people out there
Is COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream a physical or chemical product?
COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream is a physical and chemical sunscreen, as it has 4 different kinds of chemical products and 1 physical product in its composition.
Chemical products like – Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine and Isoamyl p-Methoxycinnamate.
It does have titanium dioxide, which is a fabulous physical sunscreen product, but a recent study shows that even physical sunscreens work mostly by light absorption, just like chemical filters, and only a little bit by reflection.
So, overall, it is mostly a chemical sunscreen, no matter how they market is.
Is COSRX sunscreen also a moisturizer?
Is this moisturizer? No, it’s sunscreen! And this is written in bold on their website 🤣 I mean, yes, it may feel hydrating due to glycerin and aloe vera, but it sure has nothing more than that to become a moisturizer.
Should I apply COSRX sunscreen before or after moisturizer?
You should apply COSRX sunscreen after applying your moisturizer. If you’re an oily skin type, you would want to apply a small amount as it can get very oily very quickly.
What skin type is COSRX sunscreen for?
COSRX aloe soothing sunscreen is majorly for dry skin types. It is super lightweight and feels like a moisturizer on the skin. However, it just makes oily skin appear oilier, greasy and has a really strong fragrance.
Does COSRX sunscreen clog pores?
Even though the sunscreen doesn’t claim to be a non-comedogenic formula, by looking at the ingredient list, I can say that it has no such ingredient that could be guilty of clogging pores. But the high amount of fragrance can cause irritation for sensitive skin types. ;(
Does COSRX sunscreen contain alcohol?
Yes! COSRX aloe soothing sun cream does contain alcohol which has its pros and cons. But it can be very drying if it’s in the first few ingredients of the product, which, fortunately, is not the case for this sunscreen. So rejoice!
Can COSRX sunscreen cause acne?
Although COSRX’s sunscreen doesn’t claim to be non-comedogenic, and by looking at the ingredient list, I can tell there are no such pore-clogging ingredients that can cause acne in there, but if you are allergic to alcohol or fragrances, you would want to steer clear of this product.
As for me, it didn’t cause any acne for the one week I used it regularly, and I am an oily and highly acne-prone skin type.
I’m not saying that I can NEVER cause acne, it sure can.
Should I stop using sunscreen if it causes acne?
YES! You should immediately stop using that sunscreen if it causes acne. Should you stop using sunscreen altogether? A big fat NO! There are many non-comedogenic, acne-friendly sunscreens that you can switch on if the COSRX one doesn’t work.
What does Aloe Soothing Sun Cream do?
Infused with Aloe Arborescens Leaf Extract, COSRX aloe soothing sun cream is a lightweight sunscreen not only protects your skin from harmful UV rays, but also soothes and hydrates your skin.
Which Korean sunscreen is best for oily skin?
My absolute favorite Korean sunscreen for oily skin is Beauty of Joseon sunscreen stick. It works like a charm at absorbing excess sebum for a long-lasting matte finish and leaves NO white cast or clumpy residue. It really is a godsend for oily skin types!
Final verdict on COSRX aloe soothing sun cream review
In simple words, it’s a pretty good sunscreen and at a really affordable price for dry skin people. For oily skin, it’s a big no-no!
That is all gorgeous! This is the most honest I could be and I loved to share an HONEST Cosrx aloe soothing sun cream review because no one was doing it!
