1. Start with small changes
Ever heard the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”? The same goes for escaping your lazy girl era. You don’t need to overhaul your entire life overnight. Instead, begin with tiny, manageable changes. For example, commit to making your bed every morning. It’s a small task, but it sets a productive tone for the rest of your day.
When I wanted to start running, I didn’t aim for a marathon. Instead, I set a goal to run for ten minutes a day. Before I knew it, ten minutes turned into twenty, then thirty.

2. Keep your surroundings clean 24×7
I know, cleaning isn’t exactly thrilling. But trust me, a clean space equals a clear mind. When your surroundings are tidy, you’re less likely to feel overwhelmed.
You might not even realize it, but you think clearly in a cleaner room than in a cluttered one. And when the mess just keeps on piling up, you tend to push it away each day, contributing to laziness.
Spend a day decluttering your room or workspace. Clear out old clothes, organize your desk, and create a space that feels inviting. A decluttered space is literally ten steps ahead of exiting your lazy girl era. Plus, it’s a great excuse to treat yourself to some cute new organization tools!
3. set realistic goals for today, tomorrow, next week & next month
Setting goals is like giving yourself a roadmap. Without them, it’s easy to wander aimlessly. Break down your ambitions into bite-sized pieces. For today, maybe it’s finishing that book you started.
By next week, you could aim to hit the gym three times. By the end of the month, perhaps you want to have saved a little extra cash. These tangible targets keep you motivated and focused.
When I wanted to start working out, I didn’t aim to go to the gym right away. Instead, I set a goal for a dance workout at home for ten minutes a day. Before I knew it, ten minutes turned into twenty, then thirty. Then, I subscribed to a gym membership for a month. That month turned into 4, and now a year.
4. Create lists for every little task to be completed
Lists are your new BFF. Seriously. They’re not just for groceries anymore! Write down every little task, no matter how trivial it may seem. Crossing off items gives you a sense of accomplishment and keeps you on track.
During my busiest times, my to-do list is my lifeline. Even something as simple as “water the plants” or “shave your face” gets jotted down. The tasks I couldn’t complete today move to the next day’s list so that I know I don’t over-schedule myself.
5. Establish a routine you can follow everyday
Do you roll out of bed at 11 AM, only to binge-watch Netflix in your pajamas? Creating a routine doesn’t mean losing your freedom; it means grounding yourself and giving a structure to thrive.
Set a wake-up time, even if it’s just an hour earlier than usual. And add a healthy smoothie to your morning breakfast. Trust me, it feels amazing to have a productive morning. Try this: plan your day the night before. When you wake up, you’ll know exactly what needs to be done, eliminating that “What should I do today?” moment.
6. Connect with Positive People
Who are you spending your time with? Surrounding yourself with positive, motivated individuals can be incredibly inspiring. Join a local club, attend workshops, or even find online communities that share your interests.
When I joined a book club, I met people who not only loved reading but also encouraged me to pursue my writing. The right community can uplift you and keep you accountable.
7. Limit Screen Time
How much of your day is spent mindlessly scrolling through social media? While it’s okay to unwind with a bit of Instagram or TikTok, too much screen time can drain your energy and productivity.
Set limits for yourself—maybe no phone after 9 PM or only 30 minutes of social media a day. Instead, use that time to read a book, go for a walk, or even try out a new recipe. You’ll be amazed at how much more fulfilling your day can become.
8. Get Moving In Some Way Or The Other
When was the last time you broke a sweat? Exercise is a fantastic way to boost your mood and energy levels. Whether it’s a morning yoga session, a quick jog, or a dance party in your living room, find a way to get moving that makes you happy.
I started with short, fun dance workouts on YouTube, and it totally transformed my energy levels. Later, of course, I joined a gym and didn’t like it very much in the beginning, but now? Totally love it!
9. Prioritize Self-Care
Have you been skipping your skincare routine or neglecting your mental health? Self-care is not selfish; it’s essential. I remember when I started taking my self-care seriously—everything changed.
Light a scented candle during your evening bath, journal your thoughts, or meditate for ten minutes. These simple acts can rejuvenate your spirit and prepare you to tackle the day head-on.
10. Celebrate your wins, even the smallest of them
Do you acknowledge your accomplishments, no matter how small? Celebrating even the tiniest victories can build momentum and keep you motivated.

I reached out to a friend during a particularly tough time, all vulnerable and crying and her guidance helped me see things from a new perspective. It wasn’t anything majorly different than what I didn’t already know, but I guess advice works better when it comes from another person than you!
