Yes, ponds superlight gel is value for money but is it truly the best?

Being an oily skin type and finding a moisturizer that doesn’t break you out and doesn’t feel oily is a dream come true. If you do not have oily skin, you don’t know it, period.

ponds super light gel moisturizer review

After going through a bunch of different moisturizers and breaking my skin out thousands of times, today I’m gonna give you the magic potion for your skin and I bet that your skin is gonna thank me later! With all my heart, I absolutely love Ponds superlight gel. It is an oil-free Moisturizer, infused with hyaluronic acid and vitamin E. I have used it day and night.

Also, it is a very close dupe for clinique’s moisture surge and Neutrogena hydro-boost (which is another cult favorite of mine), but obviously with less good ingredients than them.

But is it the best drugstore moisturizer? I don’t think so. But is it value for money, totally!

So let’s see what Ponds Superlight gel review holds for you.

What the product claims to be?

These are all the claims that Ponds boasts about on their site. Some of them are true but some are quite contrary. They say it has…

  • 24-hour hydration
  • Lightweight formula
  • For all skin types
  • Non-oily + Non-sticky formula
  • Absorbs faster than a cream
  • Go to moisturizer for all seasons
  • Infused with hyaluronic acid, Vitamin E, and glycerine
  • Helps restore the moisture balance
  • Spreads easily on the skin

What claims are actually true?

The very first claims seem not to be accurate as it surely doesn’t give hydration for 24 hours but lasts up to 3-4 hours approximately on my oily skin. Which is not the best, but what more do you expect at this price?

The next few claims have proven to be true because it indeed feels super light on the skin and is an oil-free gel-based formula, and doesn’t feel sticky even after 2-3 layers. You can apply as much as you want and your skin will absorb it within seconds.

Moreover, it seeps into the skin really quickly and doesn’t leave any white residue on the skin itself, making it absorb faster than a normal cream. Since it is oil-free and non-comedogenic, it doesn’t break out oily skin for any skin type for that matter, or worsen acne, which is a major plus.

Even though Ponds super light gel is a good purchase for oily and acne-prone skin, it may not be enough for dry skin people. Since they have heavy moisture requirements, this may not be able to fulfill that. It’s very lightweight like that.

Superstar ingredients in Ponds super light gel moisturizer you need to know

  • Glycerin: skin-identical ingredient, humectant
  • Niacinamide: skin brightening, Anti-acne, humectant, cell-communicating
  • Sodium PCA: skin-identical, humectant
  • Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid: humectant

That being said, it also has many fragrance and perfume ingredients that can be icky and irritating for your skin, for example – citral, geraniol, limonene, linalool, citronellol.

Price and packaging

Being surprisingly inexpensive, It comes in two quantities:

  • ₹149/$1.97 for 73gms
  • ₹299/$3.96 for 143gms of product

I got mine from Amazon at a discount which made it even cheaper. So yayy!

I suggest you buy the smaller version first to see if this really suits you or not, which I don’t doubt, but you don’t wanna buy something useless, right?

As per the packaging, it comes in an aqua blue plastic tub with silver foil on it which you have to peel off once you start using it.

Does ponds superlight gel have Fragrance?

Ponds super light gel has this typical but strong lily and aloe vera fragrance which fortunately does not stay after you have applied it to your skin. But a fragrance of any kind may feel icky and irritate your skin if you have sensitive skin. And this moisturizer has a lot of fragrance.

I love the soft gel-type texture of it. It’s neither watery and nor gel. Surely Somewhere in between. It absorbs into my oily skin very quickly and doesn’t feel heavy, sticky, greasy, or oily at all. AT ALL!

How to apply it?

Very easy to use, you have to take half finger quantity of Ponds superlight gel and apply it onto your face after cleansing it thoroughly.

My final thoughts on Ponds superlight gel

If you go by what I feel, then Ponds super light gel is an absolute must-have for all the oily skins out there because who has enough moisturization in the world anyhow? Also, I don’t think spending 5 times more money on 2 times less product quantity (talking about Neutrogena hydro boost- INR 850 for 50gms) is even worth spending (I have different opinions now) when literally they work the same.

Yes, Neutrogena and ponds have highly identical texture and consistency, but I’m stuck with Neutrogena. It doesn’t carry any fragrance, absorbs easily, and has other skin-loving ingredients like Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate that act as emollients for long-lasting hydration.

Comparing the two, I think Neutrogena is worth it only because of the excessive amount of fragrance ponds gel has in it.

Continuing with the ponds superlight gel review, it is one of the best affordable options for broke people or who are contemplating even buying a moisturizer for their skin type. You can wear it to work, college, in summer, during winter, literally everywhere and anytime. YOU GOT MY POINT, right?
