The vineyards, the wine, the cheese… it’s all going to be amazing. But wait, what should you wear? Do you need to break out your fanciest little black dress or suit and tie?
When it comes to being fashionable, wine lovers have it easy. Between the vineyards and wineries, there’s a whole spectrum of colors and styles perfect for creating outfits for winery, making it easy to look effortlessly cute.
It’s often said that you only look as good as you feel. Going to a winery is no different, and in order to look great, you want to find something to wear that you are comfortable in. From hanging out with fellow rosé fans in casual winery outfits to heading to a fancy dinner, you’ll want to pack vineyard-friendly pieces that work with the landscape and weather.
In this blog post, I’ll cover all, ALL, the things you need to think about when planning your winery outfit. I also share some wine tasting outfit ideas that complement the season’s new look with winery-inspired shades that match your pinot noir.
What you can expect at a winery?

When you’re planning your wine tour outfit, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, think about the terrain. If you’re going to be walking around the vineyard, you’ll want to wear comfortable shoes. Heels are all fancy and classy, but you won’t know what those vast lands have for you until you’re able to walk, lol!
Second, consider the weather. If it’s going to be hot, you might want to wear something light and airy. If you’re heading there in the fall, then it can get pretty chilly in the evenings. So don’t forget to pack some layers!
Finally, think about what you’ll be doing while you’re there. If you’re taking a tour, doing some wine tasting, or dining at the winery, you’ll want to make sure your outfit is appropriate for all of those activities. I’ll tell you how don’t worry!
You’ll also want to check if any of the wineries you are heading to have a dress code. This is pretty uncommon these days for tastings or tours but can be more common in formal dining areas.
What do girls wear to wineries?

If you are there, you probably wanna have some fun!
Go for something wine country casual. First and foremost, know that you can never go wrong with a cute sundress! Sundresses are airy and comfortable, perfect for a day spent strolling through vineyards.
If you don’t want to wear a dress, no problem! Wearing jeans with a flowy long-sleeve top will also do the trick. Just make sure to avoid anything too tight or constricting – you want to be comfortable as you sip on wine and take in the beautiful scenery. And don’t forget to bring a light jacket; a denim jacket goes well over a sundress or jeans and a top combo, ideally for when the sun goes down!
Having a few pieces you can layer will help you to pull together some extra outfits for the rest of your girl’s weekend. Jeans, a denim jacket, and a leather jacket are so versatile I pack them for almost every weekend away.
Now that we are done with that, let’s hop on some gorgeous summer winery outfits!

A maxi dress is always a good idea, especially when paired with comfy heels to not let the fabric touch the ground and worry you.

This fit is just the perfect mix of casual and classy – just what you’ll be at a winery for!

What to wear to a wine tour?
When planning what to wear on a wine tour, it’s important to mention that you’ll spend a lot of time outdoors. You want to look stylish but also comfortable since you’ll be doing a lot of walking. But that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style.
A cute pair of flats or ankle boots, a sunhat, and a flowy dress or jumpsuit are always a good bet. And of course, don’t forget the sunscreen!
Depending on the time of year, if the ground outside is going to be wet and has the potential to be muddy, then you’ll want to make sure the items you opt for don’t hang near the ground, like maxi dresses. You’ll want to be able to keep your hands free for wine tasting, so you don’t want the hassle of constantly having to pull up a long dress to avoid the wet ground.
A midi-dress, ankle-grazing jeans, or shorter jumpsuit are ideal.
fall winery outfits – the perfect weather indeed!
18. jackets + dresses or top + skirt

So many winery outfit ideas in one; this is a beautiful way of wearing leather or denim jackets with dresses. You can also try creating an outfit with floral mini skirts and full sleeves tops.
19. flowy top + jeans/skirt with boots

Such a fun picture, I’m craving a glass of wine with my bestie!
Wear your top with jeans and knee-high boots or with mini suede skirts and even longer thigh-high boots to not let old get in the way of fashion.
20. mini bodycon dress + jacket

Another cute and easy outfit for the winery to try in the fall. Ribbed midi dresses are always easily available. You just have to coordinate the look with a matching jacket, boots, and bag.
21. shacket + jeans

Shackets are my kind of fall essentials. They are so versatile and look super cute. Pair them with flared jeans and a crop top to enjoy the beauty and your wine in style!
22. chunky sweater over a dress

An absolute personal favorite, throw on a sweater over a slip dress and make it look a lil casual, warmer, and quite classier!
23. leather skirt + off-shoulder sweater

Leather is totally a hit this season again, with leggings and pants having their moment all over Instagram; leather skirts are a phenomenal buy as well!
24. coat + Dress | dressy tops + jeans | cardigans + cami top

These ladies are killing it off with their winery outfits. Look at all this variety! Starting off, wear your warm, classy bodycon dress and layer it off with a coat and knee-high boots.
Or match your dressy, flowy tops with jeans and boots – it’s casual and together for a day of fun.
A sexy cami top layered with a front open long cardigan sweater and ankle boots is also a cute wine tasting outfit you can totally go for!
25. t-shirt dress + shacket

Yes, Graphic t-shirts make adorable outfits, but let’s play with them to create something interesting. A dress, when paired with a shacket and thigh-high boots is definitely a head-turner and totally looks effortless!
26. sweater + jeans or top + courdroy pants

Sweaters and jeans are probably the most popular winery outfit. It’s comfortable and easy to wear but still looks put-together. Just make sure your sweater isn’t too bulky, so you can still move around and taste wine without feeling restricted.
27. bodysuit + pants + optional blazer

A blazer makes it a little too formal but ditch it for nothing or a denim jacket. I like it without! But I am willing to trade it for a leather jacket if it gets cold, haha; no one messes with the cold.
28. blanket scarf + leggings

If you’re looking for an outfit that will keep you warm all day, this is it. Throw on a pair of leggings, an oversized scarf, and boots, and you’ll be comfortable no matter how chilly it gets outside.
29. sexy tops + jeans and boots

You can never go wrong with a cute top and jeans combo. This outfit is gorgeous enough to take you from the tasting room to the vineyards, and you can layer on a jacket if it gets cold later in the day.
30. leather top and jacket + pants

Adding texture to any outfit makes it instantly more stylish. Look at this one, for that matter!
How to dress for wine tasting?
Compared to a wine tour, wine tastings are usually hosted in more formal surroundings. Often at a wine cottage, wine cellar, or restaurant. You probably don’t need to be as concerned with walking around the vineyard, but you’ll still want to stay away from super high heels as you could be standing for a long time.
Opt for comfortable pants and a dressy short-sleeved top with some loafers or leather slides. Flip flops are still a no-go for most wineries, and most other guests will be relatively dressed up too, so you don’t want to feel underdressed, or do you?
You can still get away with footwear that’s more casual and comfortable, like Birkenstocks, as long as you dress it up with a nice pair of pants or a skirt.
I also have some stellar Birkenstock dupes if you are keen on the style but not on the price!
wine tasting outfit ideas
31. white shirt dress

You know what a cool, casual winery date outfit would be? A shirt dress like this. I absolutely love this fit and am sure to wear it when I hit the vineyards!
32. sexy bodycon maxi dress

33. one shoulder top + double slit long skirt

34. casual dresses for winery

Dresses never disappoint. This look is casual but chic, ideal for a day spent exploring a new winery.
35. slip dresses

Another hot example of how to be sexy in a winery. A slip dress to the rescue!
36. leather pants + corset top

Excuse me, who is playing by the rules? Leather pants are so ‘in’ that outfits like these force you to buy one.
On that note, if you are not sure of how to style your leather leggings or what some gorgeous leather pants outfits can be, let me tell you a thing or two about it.
37. statement dress

The best way to dress for a day in wine country is to throw on a comfy dress and look like a sexy glass of wine.
38. Floral co-ord set

Florals are always a decent option. They are easy on the eye, and when styled right, you could hit a runway in them!
39. white shirt + denim shorts and boots

A white shirt is always a good idea, especially when paired with denim jeans or shorts. This outfit screams “fall” low-key and is comfortable enough to wear all day long.
What to wear to a winery wedding?

Oh, the wedding! Trust me, it’s gonna be so pretty, and you won’t have enough time to gaze at all the views these wineries have. I wish you could take me!!
But there’s a bit more to consider when planning what outfit to wear for a wedding at a winery. First things first, check the dress code on the invite. No one wants to be the person who showed up in white to a black-tie affair (or vice versa). That’s embarrassing, don’t ask me how!
If the dress code is open-ended, it’s always a good idea to check with the bride what color the bridal party will be wearing and if she would like any colors to be avoided. You don’t want to accidentally wear the same color as one of the bridesmaids and upstage the bride on her big day!
Another important thing to consider is whether there will be solid ground for a heel or if you will be on grass for the ceremony and reception. Also, if you’re going to be outside at a winery in the summer, it can get pretty hot. Although these summer winery outfits may help but consider wearing light, breathable fabrics so you can through the ceremony sans sweat.
Don’t forget to finish the look with a great pair of sunglasses. We love these Le Spec shades, they are a steal. I have so many more beautiful affordable wedding guest dresses that would be perfect for a winery wedding attire!
What to wear for lunch or dinner at a winery
If you’re visiting a winery for a nice dinner or lunch, we would still say go for comfort first and style second. After all, you’ll be sitting down and enjoying a nice meal (hopefully with some amazing wine). But if you’re looking to make more of a statement, who’s stopping you?
Just don’t get too comfortable, though; athleisure like yoga pants or a baggy t-shirt is a winery faux pas. Men should always wear a shirt with a collar, so a casual dress shirt or polo is ideal. For women, you’ll want something preppy but comfortable. A casual day winery dress, like a shirt dress that uses fabrics like linen, cotton, or silk, is ideal.
Elevate your outfit with nice jewelry rather than a high heel. Instead, opt for a classy flat leather slide or ankle boot. Take inspiration from preppy events like a polo match.
conclusion on what to wear to a winery
A trip to the winery is a fun and festive way to spend an afternoon. But before you head out, there are a few things you should keep in mind regarding what to wear—and what not to wear.
Do: Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll be doing a lot of walking (and maybe even some light hiking), so leave the stilettos at home and opt for cute flats or sandals instead.
Don’t: Wear shorts that are too short. Yes, it’s hot out, but you’re still in public so make sure your shorts aren’t so short that they’re inappropriate.
Do: Bring a cardigan or a light jacket. The temperature can drop once the sun goes down, so it’s always a good idea to have something you can throw on if you get cold.
And that’s about it. Wasn’t it easy, huh? So now go get packing the cutest outfits for winery and let the fun flow!
